Many high school seniors will reach the age of majority (18) also in time to vote in this upcoming and historic runoff election. ONVR made contact with more than 90 high school principals, as well as additional assistant principals and social studies educators with the following information and guidance:
- Voter Registration Instructions and Materials including handouts and links to the Secretary of State My Voter Page and registration website, as well as the QR code and other links for the purpose of voter registration. These materials could easily be forwarded for distance learning. The materials also provided teachers presentation slides summarizing the candidates, how the majority in the US Senate will be determined, and an overview of Voting Rights History in the United States.
- ONVR estimates that 20-30% of these schools utilized our materials. We know from both students and parents that our materials were made part of daily virtual online school announcements, specifically addressed to classes of high school seniors and we were able to secure at least one additional voter registration site in Atlanta as a result of these contacts.
